Sometimes we ladies need to think like men—especially when it comes to shaving. This regular grooming practice doesn’t have to be a rush-rush task. Ask any man: shaving can be a thoroughly enjoyable precision art, a pampering (yes, pampering!) experience that yields skincare benefits. It’s all about choosing the right products and following the appropriate ritual.
Preparation
• DO ensure great results by purchasing the right razor. Baléa Solara Triple Blade disposable razors ensure a clean, close shave every time.
• DON’T rush the process. Shaving the moment you jump in the shower—or worse yet, dry shaving—can cause razor burn, not to mention a less-than-close shave. Use your pre-shave bath- or shower-time to relax and decompress—while you do that, the warm water will be softening your hair, making it easier to shave.
• DO prime your skin. Use a Baléa Body Wash with an exfoliating mitt or shower puff to buff away dead skin cells, oil, sunscreen or body lotion residue.
Shaving 101
• DON’T dehydrate your skin—or risk nicking yourself—by substituting soap for shave cream. A dedicated product like Baléa Moisturizing Shave Cream or Baléa Sensitive Shave Cream softens hair and lubricates your skin so razor blades glide smoothly over, helping ensure a close, nick-free shave. Soap suds are less effective, more drying to skin, and their buildup can clog razor blades.
• DO take a two-stage approach to shaving your legs and bikini line. First shave in the direction of hair growth to shorten hairs, then go back against the hair growth for a super-smooth finish.
• DON’T rush underarms. Hair here grows in all directions, so shave upwards, downwards and from one side to the other. Stretch your arm right back to create a flatter, more even shaving surface.
• DO apply gentle, even pressure when shaving, holding the razor at a slight angle to the skin. Always use a sharp razor for best results.
Aftercare
• DON’T forget to moisturize. Use a gentle formulation to soothe and hydrate your skin.
• DO avoid spa treatments like body wraps, or spa products such as body scrubs, for 24 hours after shaving, when skin may be more prone to irritation.
