The emotional aspect of a woman’s cancer journey must never be overlooked.
When a woman is diagnosed with cancer, her physical health becomes the priority, and her emotional well-being is often overlooked. A woman’s cancer journey can feel very lonely, as she faces new challenges that can be best understood by others going through what she is: how to cope with work issues, family life and changes to her body and sexuality. There are simply not enough supports in place to help women with the psychosocial effects of living with cancer.
Shoppers Drug Mart WOMEN is helping build a brand new community of spirit, solidarity and strength.
A place where women with cancer, and those who support them, can share, confide and connect. We are the title sponsor of facingcancer.ca, a new website created by the Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CCTFA) Foundation.
facingcancer.ca is the virtual meeting place for Canadian women living with cancer, and will connect them to tools and resources that will inform and empower them. Users will support each other in online forums and share valuable learnings that have made a difference along their own cancer journeys. The CCFTA Foundation’s Look Good Feel Better program, which helps women manage the appearance-related effects of cancer and its treatments, will also come alive through the site. Features such as a Look Good Feel Better alumni hub will connect past program participants, while online how-to videos will give women make-up techniques, hair alternatives and body care tips that can help them look and feel a little more like themselves again.
It’s amazing how sharing a moment with someone who’s been there can lift your spirit and strengthen your resolve. This new community will do all that, and much more, for women everywhere.
