Pregnancy and new motherhood is a uniquely exciting time, as well as a time of endless questions.
Fortunately, there’s a way for expecting mothers to find reassurance, guidance and support, and it’s just a phone call away. The Motherisk Program is a clinical, research and teaching program run by The Hospital for Sick Children, one of the world’s foremost paediatric health-care institutions. The program provides expert counseling about the effects of medications, medical treatments, and countless other factors – from the use of chemicals and beauty products to chronic disease – on the pregnancy and new baby. Since 1985, Motherisk has counseled approximately 600,000 women in Canada, their families and health professionals.
To help bring peace of mind to more women than ever, we’ve expanded the breadth and capacity of Motherisk nationwide.
Since the fall of 2010, we have been the sponsor of the toll-free, bilingual Motherisk helpline. It is available across Canada to expectant parents, new mothers and everyone who cares for the baby. In addition, Shoppers Drug Mart WOMEN has been helping the Motherisk program continue its vital work by funding its ongoing research, and playing an active role in deciding where our funding is best spent. We have also been providing expert advice and information on our Very Important Baby (v.i.b.) website, which features the Mom & Baby Matters column with Dr. Gideon Koren, Director of the Motherisk Program. With this reliable source of timely information, we’re helping to bring clarity and reassurance to expectant mothers and those who share their concerns.
