The sun is out and it’s time to flash some fringe! Whether you’re rocking a barefaced, natural glow or channeling your inner bronzed goddess, flawless lashes are a must-have. Fluttery and feathery, pigmented and voluminous or runway-inspired and spidery, a bold lash look complements any mood – or outfit. (They look gorgeous with my maxi dress!) Here’s how to get your best lashes yet, no matter your mascara wand prowess, in 5 minutes flat.
- Curl for an extra boost.
A 10-second squeeze with an eyelash curler opens up your eyes and gives your lashes an instant extra shot of volume. It’s the perfect first step to any lush lash look before applying mascara. Getting as close to the lash line as possible, gently press your lashes into a curled shape. We recommend trying Shiseido’s Eyelash Curler. If you’re looking to amp up the wow-factor even more, repeat further up the lash. Make sure to get every lash!
- Create the illusion of more lashes.
It’s time to work a bit of magic here. Instead of your tried and true eyeliner routine, it may be time to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. As we discussed before, tight-lining reaches the areas along the waterline that eyeliner does not. Draw a dark line along the inner rim of the upper lash line to fill in the visual gap between lashes. This creates the appearance of a fuller fringe! A smooth, waterproof liner, like Lise Watier’s Waterproof Eyeliner is key to prevent smudging.
- Pick the right product.
Once you’ve nailed down technique, find a product with the right brush and formula focus that works for you to take your lashes from drab to fab! For instance, a bigger brush will deposit product on more lashes and helps to separate as you pull the wand through your fringe. And for the ultimate in bold lashes, look for a formula that delivers mega-volume with super-black pigments, like the new Monsieur Big Mascara from Lancôme. Prepare yourself for ooh la lash!
- Master the mascara wiggle.
Applying mascara perfectly is a work of art. The last thing you want is it to smudge or clump up. When it’s time to apply mascara, have a few tricks up your sleeve (or in some cases, even a handy beauty hack or two) to lift, elongate and separate your lashes. Our current favourite: Holding the wand horizontally at the base of your lashes, wiggle gently to distribute product and then swoop through to the tips. This extra zig-zag movement helps to coat every lash and build volume.
- Keep them lush.
When it comes time to remove your mascara and eye makeup, a gentle touch will keep your eye area – and lashes – looking fresh and flawless. For waterproof mascaras and eye makeup, choose an oil-based remover, like Lancôme’s Bi-Facil Eye Makeup Remover, to cleanse the area of any lasting makeup. Other formulas will come right off with a micelle solution - we love Bioderma Sensibio Micelle. Want to really pamper your lashes?
