Neutral makeup is synonymous with daytime wear, but it doesn’t have to mean boring. Claire is a fan of using bronzer on both the eyes and cheeks to create a monochromatic look: “Bronzer on the eyes can really make eyes pop,” she says. Finish with a brown-toned lipstick that matches your skin tone for a ’90s throwback look. Or, choose an earth-toned eyeshadow palette that has a variety of shades beyond the typical browns, including eggplant and chocolate that play well with brown, bronze and khaki tones.
Play with finishes.
Earthy tones can be colour chameleons, depending on the finish – whether shimmery, metallic or matte – which means the options are endless when it comes to colour and shine pairings. The best rule of thumb is to mix and match finishes for a variety of textures. “If you choose a metallic finish for the eyes, for example, opt for a matte finish everywhere else,” says Claire.
