As you’re doing your seasonal closet cleanse (goodbye, nubby sweaters!), and the temperatures climb for those oh-so-needed cottage getaways, it’s also time to think about switching up your skincare routine. Post-polar vortex, your skin may have taken a beating (think: dull, dry and generally lackluster). Those heavy moisturizers you’ve loved all winter just won’t cut it anymore!
To refresh your skin and add that soft touch for the warmer months, follow any of these skincare musts to perk up your routine.
Parched, irritated skin needs some extra TLC to cope with the season’s change in weather. Your skin is adjusting to a warmer climate, after all. Choose a moisturizing, non-irritating cleanser containing ceramides; these help to cleanse your skin while restoring its essential moisture barrier.
A lighter touch can do wonders for your skin. Now that the air is less dry both inside and out, that rich moisturizer that saved your skin in winter may feel a tad too heavy in the spring. Trying opting for a lighter moisturizer, one that is either a lotion or gel-based, to still hydrate and replenish your skin, but it will feel softer to the touch as the weather heats up.
Your spring look deserves smooth and revitalized skin. Banish dull skin by incorporating a lotion or cleanser with alpha hydroxy acid, a chemical exfoliator that removes dead skin. If your skin is sensitive, try using a non-chemical exfoliator, like a gentle scrub or skin polish.
Preserve & Protect
SPF isn’t only for the summer months – it’s a must for whenever you’re out in the sun! SPF 30 should be the standard for your lotion year-round, but for those with fairer skin tones who burn more easily, a higher number is your BFF. What’s more, many of us aren’t nearly as generous enough with our sunscreen application as we should be. Apply a healthy amount of sunscreen and lotion to your skin, and take your SPF number to a higher level, to get the full benefits of the cream. Too little and you may still feel the burn!
