Weight Management

The Facts

Why Weight Management is Important

The number of overweight and obese people in the world has grown so substantially in recent years that the World Health Organization has labelled this increase as an obesity epidemic.

Obesity is a problem because people who are obese are at a much higher risk for serious medical conditions such as high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, gallbladder disease, and different cancers than people who are at a healthy weight. As such, weight management is needed to ensure we’re all at a healthy weight.

The First Step to Weight Loss

Weight management is required to help stop the obesity epidemic. Weight loss of 2 pounds (about 1 kilogram) per week is the best approach. The key to weight loss is eating less and being more physically active. An appropriate weight management program usually combines physical activity, healthy diet, and change in daily habits. Many people have difficulty with weight management because it involves substantial behaviour change as it is a long-term approach to living healthy. It is not easy to change your eating habits and to exercise regularly.
