You don’t have to be a kid to play with glitter—we promise! This fall, the craft store staple became a full-blown runway beauty trend. It was head-turning, show-stopping and made just for adults. At Burberry (second from the left), it was all about large flecks of loose glitter along the outer-eye corners and cheekbones, while at Atelier Versace’s Couture show (far left), sparkling red lips were the center of attention. We know what you’re thinking. It looks beautiful on the catwalk but can it translate to real life? In short: yes!

Glitter’s wearability all depends on how you apply it. Put on too much with abandon and you’ve got yourself a big beauty don’t. If glitter lips are what you’re after, start with a red lip liner, tracing your lip line and then filling them in. Next, follow up with a dark red lip gloss. If your lacquer comes with serious shimmer, this will be your last step. If not, finish off by patting cosmetic-grade glitter on top of your lips right after your application.

If you love a bold liner, take inspiration from Giambattista Valli (seen above). While the show was about glitter brows peeping out from just below the arches, you can keep it on your lash line for an unexpected pop of sparkle. Try using a glitter liner to create a cat eye, or if you’re feeling shy, start with a black liner and finish off the end of the flick by switching to glitter.

Still unsure? The tamest way to embrace glitter is with a light dusting of eyeshadow on your lids, like the look seen at Tommy Hilfiger (far right). Opt for eye shadows that are high on the sparkle scale. Alternatively, you can also keep it even more low-key by choosing one with a soft shimmer. Either way, you’re guaranteed to outshine everyone.
