After turning up on the runways a few seasons ago at Prabal Gurung and Dior, the ombrè lip or two-toned lip is a trend that shows no sign of waning. Cool girls everywhere are creating Pinterest-worthy, multi-coloured pouts at a time when playing with your makeup is the ultimate pastime.
To create an ombrè lip thatís perfect for a special night on the town with the girls, there are some important tools to consider. A darker lip pencil in your shade of choice is key. After lining just outside of your natural lip line, remember to use short, feathering motions to blend out the shade into the middle of your lips. Then apply your middle, lighter hue, and use a makeup sponge or lip brush to help blend the shades together.
Finish by highlighting the middle of the bottom lip and the Cupid's bow with a clear or pale gloss, for the ultimate contour.
Tips & Tricks
Not matter which shade of lipstick you're going with, we love the pink on top, deep red on the bottom lip, prepping the lips is a must. Grab a lip exfoliator for ultra soft and smooth lips pre-application, make sure to moisturize your lips, and a neutral base is key; you can use a lip primer, or apply a light coat of foundation to your lips.
For the best, on-trend ombrè lip, stick to different hues in the same colour family. A warm berry pink and a deep berry red work best, as do pops of cool pale pink with a hot pink contrast.
Did you know?
Marilyn Monroe would use multiple shades of gloss and lipstick to create a contoured, plumper looking pout. The buxom Hollywood babe would have her makeup artist layer shades of red, with lighter hues in the middle and the darkest red as liner around the edges. Dare we say the first ever ombrè lip?
