BEAUTY PREP SCHOOL: PUNK GOTH

It’s official: the beauty looks for fall have gone over to the dark side. That means ultra dark lipsticks (everything from deep reds and plums to full-on black), smokey eyes like you’ve never seen before and unusual eyeshadow shades (think rusty shades like copper instead of your usual browns). But beauty lovers beware: these looks aren’t for the shy of heart. To wear them with confidence, you’ll have to channel your inner rebel and have a few key products. Here are three ways to get in on the punk goth trend in real life.
The Inspiration: Rusty Eyeshadow at Alexander Wang
How to get it: No more playing it safe with your neutral eyeshadow. Instead, go for rusty and coppery shades. To keep it modern, choose an eyeshadow with a creamy finish. Using your hue of choice from Lise Watier Simply Nudes Eyeshadow Palette, buff the shade onto your lid from your lash line up to your brow bone. Then, using a tapered eyeshadow brush, pat the shade just beneath your lower lash line.
Pair it with: Even though the models were sans mascara at Wang, in real life, it will make you look more put together. If black is too harsh, switch to a dark brown shade so it doesn’t compete against the look.
The Inspiration: Smudgy Eyes at Marc Jacobs
How to get it: Just when you thought a smokey eye was the ultimate statement-maker, along came Marc Jacobs with it’s way over-the-top eye makeup. But we get it. The look may be a little too Marilyn Manson for real life so we figured out a way to dial it down a notch and make it more wearable. Instead of going for a messy eyeshadow on your lower lid, reverse it by wearing a smudged out a smokey eye on your upper lid. Start by applying Lise Watier Intense Waterproof Eyeliner in Blackest Black on your upper and lower lash line. Then, go in with Lise Water Crayon Kajal in Noir, smudging out the edges with your finger or a smudge brush.
Pair it with: Since it’s such a bold eye makeup look, you don’t need a whole lot of other makeup. Keep the rest of your makeup neutral, either going for a nude or soft pink lipstick or a bit of blush.
The Inspiration: Dark Lips at Rodarte
How to get it: If you’re a red lipstick girl, it’s time to go darker. To make a statement, reach for a matte lipstick in plum. First, prep your lips with a lip balm so they’re moisturized and lipstick-ready. Then, swipe on Smashbox Be Legendary Matte Lipstick in Femme Fatale Matte. For a more precise pout, you can use a lip brush instead of applying it directly from the bullet.Pair it with: A matte lipstick works best with glowing skin. Look for a dewy foundation and make highlighter your best friend.
