BRIGHT SIDE: HOW TO CHOOSE THE BEST SUMMER EYE MAKEUP FOR YOUR EYE COLOUR

BRIGHT SIDE: HOW TO CHOOSE THE BEST SUMMER EYE MAKEUP FOR YOUR EYE COLOUR

Summer is here, and with it sunshine, fruity cocktails and . . . fun eye makeup! This sunny “seasun”, your eye wardrobe should consist of pretty pink shadows, bright blue mascara and beach-ball-bold coloured liners. It’s a short season, so get the pool party started with our expert tips for choosing the right shades for your eye colour and capturing the cheerful charm of summer’s hottest makeup hues.

Pink, Please.
If you missed the memo that pink is huge right now, it’s time to get with the trend. The spring runways were overflowing with pink: dresses, coats, shoes, bags—and makeup, too. Pink on lips and cheeks is tried and true, but it’s a little more fashion-forward on the eyes. Models on the Tadashi Shoji runway at New York Fashion Week wore hot-pink shadow on top and bottom lids, and the crease, offset with long black lashes, while at Topshop Unique a softer peachy-rose shade adorned both eyes and lips. If you have brown or green eyes, go for a warm orange-based pink like Clinique Lid Pop in Petal Pop. If you have blue eyes, choose a blue-based lilac-pink like ARTDECO Eyeshadow Pearl in Pearly Pink Treasure.

Tip: If you feel one shade of pink isn’t enough to achieve the bold look you want, try mixing two or more colours together to perfect a powerful punch.

Colour Me Crazy.
The eyes had all the fun on the runways this season. Eye-catching stares were lined in turquoise, purple, magenta, orange—you name it. Makeup artists let their creativity fly with curved flicks, elongated triangles and boundaries that expanded beyond eyelids to temples and brows. We loved Louis Vuitton’s navy and purple takeover of all available eye space and Victoria Beckham’s metallic green shadow. Since you’re in the mood for bold colour, take it to the next level by choosing a liner that contrasts with your eye colour: orange or bronze for blue eyes (try Marcelle Kohl Eyeliner in Copper Coin), pinky purple for green eyes (like Lise Watier 24 Hrs Glame Eyeliner in Violet) and bright blue to illuminate brown eyes (such as Urban Decay Razor Sharp Water-Resistant Longwear Eyeliner in Chaos).

Tip: You can use a coloured liner by itself, or add a thin strip of it above or below your regular black or brown liner as an accent.

Blue Lash Attack.
Welcome back, ’80s blue mascara—we’re so happy to see you! For Spring 2017, models at the ever-bold designer Jeremy Scott’s show wore electric blue mascara, giving their eyes a mesmerizing glow, even from a distance. This conversation-starting look is perfect for a party, or wear it on a sunny day when the light can really set it off (try ARTDECO All In One Mascara in Blue). The look is surprisingly flattering on all eye colours but match it to the lightness of your eyes—if you have pale blue or green eyes, say, try an aqua or sky blue, and if your eyes are darker brown or grey, equal their intensity with royal blue or navy.

Tip: For a tamer version of the look, apply your blue mascara just on lash tips, after your usual black.
