In the grand scheme of new beauty-product releases, nail polish is, undoubtedly, the most overwhelming. The top brands flood the market with new shades every season, to say nothing of all the finishes and textures for your tips. Thankfully, the mani/pedis spotted on the spring runways offered up plenty of inspiration and colour cues in our pursuit of picking a new polish. Here are four of the freshest tints to wear now.
Designers like Dior, Tibi, and Marchesa slipped into spring with a coat of pastel polish. This season’s newest shades channel lilac bunches, bowls of lemon, cups of sherbet, tufts of cotton candy, and handfuls of sweet apricot and fresh mint.

THE BRIGHT STUFF
In contrast to all the soft and subtle hues, a bevy of brands incorporated bursts of colour onto the runways. Cobalt blue at Issa and Jenny Packham; vibrant coral at Rebecca Minkoff and Stella Jean; sunny yellow at Opening Ceremony and Creatures of the Wind; Classic Apple Red at Marc Jacobs and Zac Posen; and a playful combination of each at Ashish proved that a saturated palette is infinitely wearable. A crisp manicure in any one of these shades will change a “meh” into a “yay” in one fell swoop—er, swipe!

From sheer nudes and barely-there opalescent formulas in Paris (see Stella McCartney and Emanuel Ungaro) to a sexy, creamy ‘70s opaque beige brushed on throughout New York (Michael Kors and Alexander Wang), the beauty message is in the buff.

Metallics are the season's statement-makers, but it was the designers themselves who mined new ways to wear them. On one hand a simple slick of shimmer over a nude nail bed was reflected in Chanel’s liquid chrome and Reem Acra’s coppery iridescence. On the other, bejewelled, sparkly, and endless amounts of 3D glitter gave pierced talons at Gareth Pugh, Kenzo and Delpozo, a dazzling texture.
