HOW TO BEAT DRY WINTER SKIN
By now, you know the ultimate result of winter’s wrath on your skin. But understanding why it’s happening can go a long way towards treating the problem. Too much exfoliation, dry air, or lack of oils can be a serious issue. Essential oils help to hold water in the skin, but in winter, we lose both water and oils, which can lead to winter skin.
That said, when it comes to showering, keep them short and not too overly hot, which can pull moisture from skin. Opt for soap-free, moisturizing body washes enriched with oils instead. To smooth away rough skin, exfoliate once or twice a week with a gentle body scrub – this will help any moisturizers applied afterwards absorb better. While skin is still damp, apply a rich body cream or lotion infused with moisturizing shea butter, hyaluronic acid or glycerin.
Meanwhile, to fight moisture-sapping indoor heating, keep a humidifier in your bedroom to add water back into skin while you sleep. Staying hydrated by drinking lots of water, and while keeping caffeine and alcohol to a minimum, can also help fight dryness. Lastly, creating a nightly body care routine, with creams for the body, hands and feet, can become part of a luxurious ritual. Your skin and body will wake up ready to take on the snowy world!
