If you make one beauty move this summer, let it be this: metallic makeup. So flattering, sexy, and yes, wearable day or night! But trust us: what works on Saturday night won’t on Monday morning. Ahead, we’ve designed a few beauty tips for you to master metallic makeup, 24/7:
DAYTIME METALLIC MAKEUP
There’s a time and place to channel Lady Gaga—and the office is not it. But a small hint of sheen is a modern way to feel polished at work. For example, model Bella Hadid made her Cannes film festival debut last month with pretty much the most perfect daytime glow: a subtle use of copper and brown metallics that looked as fresh as her dewy skin and flesh-toned lips.
For a similar look, apply matte eye shadow in any colour, blend up from the crease, then layer a light-catching shadow in the same palette, saving the lightest hue for the brow bone. Don’t worry if the lighter shadow falls on your cheekbones; it’ll act as a highlighter. Finish with a sweep of highlighter and creamy tawny blush for a full flush.
EVENING METALLIC MAKEUP
For a “go-big-or-go-home” metallic makeup look, some advice: choose one area (the eyes, cheekbones or even lips) to maximize impact. We love how actress Lily-Rose Depp took metallic shadow to fearless new heights by swapping her go-to smokey eye for sultry gilt lids. While a heavily pigmented shade may feel a bit much, the key is to layer on the shimmer enough to flash on the dance floor. Define the eyes with mascara and a heavy rimming of black liner with a feline flick. And don’t forget to pack a tube of nude lipstick with just a hint of iridescence before you head out. After all, it’s important to leave a little sparkle wherever you go.
