Our flirty summer dresses and strappy sandals are tucked away in the back of our closets for sunnier days ahead. The winter blahs are still in full force! But, that doesn’t mean we also have to say goodbye to gorgeous, glowing features.

As we’ve seen model after model strut their way down the catwalk at the Spring/Summer 2017 runways, it became perfectly clear: A glossy, wet glow was one of the hottest makeup looks of the season. Radiant and glowing is where it’s at, but this year, it’s a tad different.

Makeup artists and designers got creative to achieve peak gloss. Concealer and eyeshadows are all well and good (they will always be a makeup must), but it was all about breaking with convention by using unconventional products. From shimmering eyes to stunning canvases, here are a few out-of-the-box ideas to perfect your glossy glow.

1. Easy on the eyes.
Radiant eyes go with everything, and nothing makes them pop more than a shimmery effect. Follow Maybelline’s direction from the Jason Wu Spring/Summer 2017 show by dabbing clear lip balm with your fingers to your lids and around the creases of your eyes for a glossy look. We love their choice of Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm in Quenched.

2. Gloss is boss.
When pairing makeup with your glowing gaze, a two-step approach can heighten the impact of your gloss. Go for big and bold or a subtle shine, like Marchesa’s “ethereal glow.”

First, line the waterline and lashline with a trusted eyeliner; we think a silver or gold works best. Then, apply a clear or lightly tinted formula, similar to an eye gloss or eye primer like the Joe Fresh Eye Primer, to the eye lids, creases and arches of the cheekbones. Your features will glisten in the light and show off your stunning choice of colour!

3. Loving the lacquer.
Lip gloss isn’t only for your pout anymore! At the Spring/Summer 2017 runways, designers like Marni brought out the lip favourite to try something new. The fashion house applied a dash of lip gloss to the eye lids, brows, and along the Cupid’s bow of their models to add an extra pop of colour.

To master this look, choose a lip gloss that pairs well with your eyeshadows to elevate the colour. Lightly slide it along your features and blend it in. On the other hand, a clear lip gloss is a good safe bet too. We like Soap & Glory’s Sexy Mother Pucker Lip Plumping Gloss in Clear.

4. Dew it right.
When in doubt, simple is always best when you’re in the mood for a refreshing and glossy glow in a pinch. We recommend NYX Cosmetic’s Dewy Finish Makeup Setting Spray. It’s a lightweight and gentle formula that will leave your face looking bright and fresh from a misty day. Two-to-three spritzes are all you’ll need! Sun-kissed skin may be a few months away (sigh), but it’s never too early to get the glossy and gorgeous look of a hot summer day. It only takes your favourite beauty product and a touch of creative inspiration. It’ll be our little secret…
