I am experiencing side effects from my medications, how can my pharmacist help?

Pharmacists are medication experts. They can identify potential drug interactions, allergic reactions, or medication side effects and ensure your treatment is safe, effective and appropriate. Side effects can happen with any prescription and non-prescription medications. It might happen at the start of a new medication, or when changing dose, or when you're adding another prescription or non-prescription medication. Your Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacists take side effects seriously. That's because side effects can often cause patients to stop taking the medications as prescribed, or stop taking it completely. Your pharmacist will counsel you on what side effects you may expect from the prescribed drug, and will provide you with a patient information sheet for the new drug. If side effects are not tolerated and are affecting your health, interfering with your daily activity, or leading you to stop the treatment, your pharmacist will help to provide strategies and plans to manage side effects, which may include reducing your dose or changing the medication, or consulting with your doctor to find the best alternative for you.

Whether you have questions about your prescription medications, over-the-counter products, immunizations, or other health concerns, our pharmacists are here to help.
