Is it possible to get rid of a cold in a day? Should I stay home, or go back to work?

Is it possible to get rid of a cold in a day? Unfortunately, it is not. However, you can use some over-the-counter remedies to help alleviate your symptoms; to help you better manage, while the infection runs its course. There is no cure for the common cold, and infections with a cold will typically last about a week - but there are some symptoms, like a cough, that can persist up to 14 days. If you are sick with a cold, you should absolutely stay home, if you’re feeling unwell. This is going to make sure that you’re giving your body a chance to rest, so that you can recover, and will help minimize any risk of transmission to others. Over the counter medications are available to help combat some of those symptoms, such as fever, achiness, nasal congestion, runny nose, and a cough.

Whether you have questions about your prescription medications, over-the-counter products, immunizations, or other health concerns, our pharmacists and registered dietitians are here to help.
