Who should get tested for COVID-19 and how can my pharmacy help?

Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacies in select provinces are now offering COVID-19 testing to individuals that are not experiencing any symptoms. This asymptomatic testing is part of the government’s overall strategy to help us determine the number of cases in the community and help us better understand the virus and it’s transmission. This is asymptomatic testing only, so if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, you will have to be referred to Public Health for a further assessment. These symptoms include: fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, runny nose, sneezing or sore throat. Additionally, pharmacists will also screen to make sure patients are not experiencing chills, pain upon swallowing, muscle or joint pain, severe exhaustion or fatigue, any gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or loss of appetite, as well as any symptoms of pink eye or conjunctivitis. If you are not experiencing any of these symptoms, if you have not travelled outside the country in the last fourteen days, and if you have not come in close contact with anyone confirmed as having COVID-19, you are absolutely eligible for an asymptomatic test at the pharmacy. Simply go to the Shoppers Drug Mart website for a list of participating pharmacies that you can contact directly to book an appointment. Alternatively, there is an online booking tool as well to help facilitate this process.
