Refill Prescriptions

Like doing your taxes, getting an oil change for your car, or shovelling the driveway, refilling your prescriptions is one of those responsibilities that has to be done on a regular basis. Although you may not feel like your medication is having an impact day-to-day, it’s important to take your medications regularly as prescribed to keep medical conditions in check and prevent any long-term complications from arising. Fortunately, there are plenty of convenient options available at Shoppers Drug Mart® that can help you make sure you are getting the most out of your medications. Here are some ideas and tips for managing and refilling your prescriptions.

Organizing your Prescriptions

There are plenty of options available to help you keep up with taking your medications.

Try to take your medications at the same time each day, so that you create a routine for yourself. Other convenient options include setting an alarm on your phone or downloading a pill reminder app to remind you to take your medications on time.

You can also purchase your own pill organizer from any Shoppers Drug Mart® location. These come in a range of options with different days of the week printed across their face, or different holders for different times of day.

Blister packs are also an option for people with more complicated medications schedules. Your Shoppers Drug Mart® pharmacist can provide your medications in a blister pack, which can help separate multiple medications into single day pods.  Pill organizers and blister packs can provide a quick, at-a-glance visual aid to help you know what medication to take and when, and what medication you’ve already taken.1

Both blister packs and pill organizers can help you know when you’ll soon run out of your medication. It’s important you order your prescription refill before your medication runs out, as it may take a few days to process or have your order ready for pick-up.

Quick and Easy Prescription Refills

Whether you need to refill, renew, or transfer your prescription, we have options that make it quick and easy to get your prescription when you need it.

It’s important that you order your refill well before your current supply has run out so there are no interruptions in your routine. If you are out of refills on your prescription, your pharmacy team may be able to offer a renewal or contact your healthcare provider for a prescription renewal on your behalf. You can call ahead to refill or renew your prescription by phone a few days before, then when you arrive at the pharmacy, your prescription will be ready.2 In some provinces you can even upload a photo of your prescription to the Shoppers Drug Mart online pharmacy and have it filled at a nearby location.

Depending on where you live, any prescription can be delivered to your door for free if you’re not available to pick it up in person. And for those who have prescriptions covered by the Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) program, you will save an extra $2 on each prescription.

In some provinces, your local Shoppers Drug Mart® pharmacist may be able to do on-the-spot screening or prescribe for some minor ailments, such as allergies or smoking cessation, saving you a trip to the doctor’s office.

You should feel comfortable in asking your local pharmacist questions about your prescription and medication routine, with the understanding that anything you ask or any information shared will be kept in strict confidence and your privacy maintained.

When the time comes, be ready for your next prescription refill. Speak with your local Shoppers Drug Mart® pharmacist about what options are most convenient for you.
