What is hypertension?

Hypertension also known as high blood pressure is a condition when the pressure in your blood vessels becomes too high. This usually occurs because of clogged or stiffened artery that puts a pressure on your heart to work harder than normal to pump blood to the body. Usually, people with high blood pressure may not show any symptoms, however, rarely symptoms of high blood pressure such as shortness of breath, nose bleeds or headaches may occur. Hypertension puts an undue strength on your heart which can potentially lead to damage to your internal organs and subsequently cause serious health problems. As a result, screening and treatment is crucial at preventing long-term complications of hypertension.
