What can I expect from a Zumba class? Join a Zumba class, and you'll feel like you've joined a party – a noisy, sweaty, good-natured party. Leave the thick-soled, full-tread running shoes at home and opt for thinner-soled sneaker or cross-training shoes with some ankle support but not a lot of tread. This helps you keep up with the pivots and side-to-side movements and prevent knee injuries. Dress in comfortable clothes that you can move and stretch in, and drink plenty of water throughout the class.
If it's your first class, find a spot in the middle of the class toward the front so you can see the instructor and those around you. And let your instructor know you're new to Zumba or if you have any injuries, in case there are any modifications or tips your instructor may be able to offer.
