First Raw Ingredient Skin Care Line in North America
October 5, 2011, Toronto: In an effort to meet the growing demand for effective, green skin care, Shoppers Drug Mart is pleased to launch RAW ESSENTIALS by Carol Alt in over 900 stores across Canada. The all-natural ingredients found in RAW ESSENTIALS skin care products are never heated above 46°C, keeping them as close to their unadulterated state as possible to provide maximum nourishment to the skin. In Canada, the RAW ESSENTIALS range features nine skin care products for the face, eyes and body from $9.99 to $29.99, only at Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix stores.
“We’re so thrilled to have Carol Alt’s RAW ESSENTIALS line to add to our expanding skin care assortment,” says Liesbeth Vandenberkmortel, Director Corporate & Exclusive Brands at Shoppers Drug Mart. “Canadian shoppers are looking for cutting-edge ingredients with proven results for their skin and this line delivers exactly what they are searching for.”
After embracing raw food nutrition over a decade ago, Carol Alt, renowned supermodel, actress, author and cancer survivor, realized that the benefits of raw ingredients to retain vitamins, minerals and nutrients could be harnessed for skin care. “I discovered that toxins were entering my body through my skin,” says Alt, who founded RAW ESSENTIALS and continues to lead the development of new products. “I realized that what I put on my body is every bit as important as what I put in my body.”
Skin is the largest organ in the human body and, with an absorption rate of up to 60%, is susceptible to environmental toxins. It does not discriminate between beneficial or damaging ingredients. By feeding skin with raw natural ingredients rather than synthetic ingredients, it becomes nourished and balanced. RAW ESSENTIALS skincare products incorporate an abundance of super-nutrients, vitamins and minerals, essential fatty acids, enzymes and proteins to help strengthen cell membranes and promote naturally healthy skin. Key ingredients include pure aloe, olive leaf extract, oat extract, mushroom extract, licorice root, virgin coconut oil and citrus oils.
Raw ingredients lose the potency of their vitamins, minerals, nutrients and enzymes when exposed to heat. Furthermore, when oils and fats are heated they disperse toxic trans-fatty acids that can cause skin to weaken and result in sagging, aging skin. For these reasons, RAW ESSENTIALS developed a proprietary, low temperature (cold press) manufacturing process to retain the nutrients in its ingredients. RAW ESSENTIALS does not use petroleum, sulphates, synthetic preservatives like parabens, artificial colours and fragrances, or genetically modified organisms.
The RAW ESSENTIALS line at Shoppers Drug Mart includes: Refreshing Face Wash ($9.99), Radiant Face Scrub ($14.99), Clarifying Pore Tightening Face Toner ($11.99), All Day Revitalizing Face Moisturizer ($24.99), Night Time Firming & Nourishing Face Moisturizer ($24.99), Moisturizing Face Serum ($29.99), All Day Eye Cream ($29.99), Night Time Age Defying Eye Serum ($29.99) and Body Oil ($12.99), available exclusively at Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix from October 2011.
