The Facts

Lung disease affects millions of Canadians. Lung diseases can range from a mild respiratory condition (e.g., a cold) to a chronic medical condition (e.g., asthma) to lung infection caused by bacteria.

Some examples of lung disease and respiratory conditions include:

  • acute bronchitis
  • asthma
  • common cold
  • COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis
  • flu
  • lung cancer
  • pneumonia cause by bacteria or virus (infectious lung disease)
  • sleep apnea
  • tuberculosis (infectious lung disease)
